L'Accademia Albertina è situata nell'antica "Isola di S. Francesco da Paola", sede dell'omonimo convento annesso alla chiesa tuttora esistente, la cui facciata si trova su quella che si chiamava allora "Contrada di Po", e che la toponomastica attuale designa come via Po. Su quest'area, e utilizzando in parte l'ala est del chiostro, ad opera di Giuseppe Talucchi fu progettato e realizzato, tra il 1820 e il 1930, l'edificio che ospita ancor oggi l'Accademia Albertina, e che ad essa fu donato sin dal 1833 da Carlo Alberto, nell'ambito della "rifondazione" dell'Accademia stessa da lui voluta e realizzata. 

L'imponente facciata disegnata da Talucchi occupa per intero il lato est dell'isola, e si prolunga in una ulteriore manica a sud, ospitando oggi, oltre a numerose Scuole dotate di ampi spazi, la ricca Biblioteca Storica e la pregevole Pinacoteca, estendendosi per ben cinque piani fuori terra.

The Albertina Academy is situated in what was once the “Isola” or precinct of San Francesco da Paola. This was the site of the homonymous convent connected to the church which still stands today, its facade giving onto the old “Contrada di Po” or Po Quarter, now Via Po. On this area, and using part of the eastern wing of the cloister, between 1820 and 1830 Giuseppe Talucchi designed and realised the building that was to become the seat of the Albertina Academy from its re-foundation in 1833, by the express wish of King Carlo Alberto. 

Talucchi’s imposing facade occupies the entire eastern side of the block, and extends further south in another wing. In addition to the Academy’s numerous teaching departments, each endowed with ample space, today the five-storey building houses the Historical Library and the excellent Pinacoteca or art gallery.
